First, a huge thank you to our gracious hosts, Angela and Michael Chase, for creating such a warm and inviting space at Adirondack Soul Company on Main Street in Gloversville, NY. Their authentic and delicious soul food is a must-try—seriously, as your attorney, I advise you to get the carrot soufflé. It’s the best I’ve ever had!
Now, onto the music. Ian Hadley and Eric Achzet, performing as Acoustic Endeavors, delivered two incredible acoustic sets that left me asking “when are we doing this again?”. Ian and Eric, both members of Elastic Endeavors, showcased their immense talent in a way that was nothing short of magical.
Eric, typically the drummer for Elastic Endeavors, completely wowed me on the keys. His ability to seamlessly shift between instruments is a testament to his musicianship. Watching him play with such skill and passion was impressive.
And Ian—what can I say? His smooth and sweet vocals, paired with his enthusiastic and skilled guitar playing, made for an unforgettable performance. Ian is a true artist in every sense, combining masterful songwriting with a voice that effortlessly draws you in. The setlist was a delightful mix of obscure cover songs and original gems. Ian brought us unique renditions of songs like Seven Spanish Angels, a song originally recorded as a duet with Willie Nelson and Ray Charles and Fire on the Mountain—not the Grateful Dead classic, but The Marshall Tucker Band’s underrated track of the same name (see what I mean? Marshall Tucker ?!?!) And let’s not forget his playful nod to Bobby McFerrin’s Don’t Worry Be Happy!
The highlight of the night? Ian’s original song “Aquamarine”. It’s been stuck in my head ever since, and I’m not complaining. He also showed off his looping skills during the performance and that left me in awe.
Acoustic Endeavors brought a perfect blend of soulful covers, creative interpretations, and stunning originals. This is a duo (and a band) destined for great things. If you ever have the chance to see them perform, don’t miss it. I, for one, am ready for the Elastic Endeavors tour. How about you?
All the best,
Penny Piper
